Social media has at last proven itself to be more than just a passing trend. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are integrated into most people’s daily lives, and they aren’t just for personal use anymore. Social media sites are key to building business relationships and making connections.

To start 2012 off right, Brad Friedman of Social Media Today has shared a few tips to make the most out of your social media presence. Here are some of our favorites:

Google+ Business Pages: If you are running a business or involved in your company’s social media efforts, you probably already have Facebook and LinkedIn pages set up. Google+ is still new and not many businesses have tackled this terrain, so it’s a good idea to set up a business page to make sure all of your bases are covered.

Include a Photo: The point of social media is that it’s social. Not including a picture on your profile is anti-social and tells people that you don’t care all that much about putting yourself out there and being involved.

Include Links: Every post you do on a social media site should have links back to your other sites. Direction to your blog, website, Facebook, Twitter, etc. should be standard.

Social Media Buttons: Don’t force people to scour the Internet in order to find your social media sites. Include buttons to your pages on your website, blog, and e-mail signature.
