PROOF: Media for Social Justice has just announced Swiss photographer Scott Typaldos as the winner of their Award for the Emerging Photojournalist. The award was bestowed on Mr. Typaldos for his work exposing the abuse of the mentally ill at “Prayer Camps” in Ghana. In addition to recognition, the award also ensures Mr. Typlados $2,500 to continue his work. “Scott Typaldos’ photos highlight an awful situation which, sadly, has so far escaped the coverage it deserves,” said executive director of PROOF, Leora Kahn. “We’re proud to support his effort to change this.”

Mr. Typaldos photos were picked by a panel of experienced judges from a pool of almost 100 international entrants. There were also two runners up: British-born photographer Ayman Oghanna, and Monique Jacques, an American.
