Introducing D2M's Newest Creation: Instacube

By Halley Parry

Line up, fellow Instagram fiends. D2M | Design to Matter’s Kickstarter campaign ended with a bang on Friday night, having raised a total of  $621,050 for the development of Instacube. Instacube is a sexy, wireless picture frame that coaxes photos from your Instagram out of your phone and into your world. It is a smart digital picture frame that will give Instagram photos the display they deserve.

The device measures 7.66 inches high, wide and 2.5 inches deep—although these dimensions are subject to change in production. The measurements do not quite equal a cube if we were to get technical (which we are), but they are close enough. Instacube will manifest your Instagram feed on a 6.5-inch LCD touch-screen with a 600 x 600 pixel resolution. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection and an Instagram account. Instacube greatly improves on the concept of the first digital picture frames because it updates automatically. This will allow you to see what your friends and family are uploading in real time, making Instagram more than just an app. The simplicity lies in three buttons on top of Instacube: a power button; a button to toggle between feeds of your photos, your friends or popular photos; and a “like” button that is appropriately heart-shaped. Everything else will be done on the touch-screen.

Before the campaign was even finished, Instacube outdid itself. After surpassing their first goal of $250,000 they began a series of stretch goals, which have integrated Facebook photos and introduced Instacube in black and white. Still beautifully simple, the integration of Facebook will widen the range of pictures in your photo stream. The target launch is set to 2013, so keep your ears perked for any further updates.
