Day 2 of Skip Cohen University didn’t fail to impress. The philosophy of handshakes, telephone calls, meetings and face-to-face hands-on education with  people who share a passion for photography was prevalent at every turn as faculty and students alike mingled over lunch and shared stories about their businesses and careers between sessions.  The morning started with an eye opening session with Scott Bourne and the new approach to marketing your photography business with a mix of traditional and social methods.  Next up was something really special.  Exclusive to Skip Cohen University, the Un-Conference, allows students to become educators and share their life experiences and lessons with the rest of the attendees, bringing the entire group closer together with the knowledge that everyone at SCU is going through the same trials, tribulations and successes in their businesses and daily lives.

After a great lunch and a chance for everyone to hang out together, SCU Alumni Chantale Perron and the SCU student council arranged a very special activity to help us all burn off the calories all those yummy chocolate chip cookies and brownies. You’ll just have to watch the video to find out what it was!

The afternoon brought a buzz to the room as Rich Harrington, of Rhed Pixel, took the stage to share his intimate knowledge of the video industry and how photographers can, and should, be making the transition to introduce video to their businesses to offer more services to their clients and make their businesses more profitable.  Next up was Michael Corsentino with another game changer. His discussion of offering engagement shoots as added value to wedding photography packages not only makes you more money, it also allows photographers to work with the bride and groom in an intimate setting before the big day. Alleviating some of the pressure of the actual wedding shoot and allowing photographers to showcase their photographic skills and increase their profits through additional print sales.  The evening ended with another round of the un-conference as we learned more about the attendees and what it really takes to run a small photography business in today’s economy.

Overall SCU delivered on every aspect attendees expected and wanted from a photography education program. The entire crowd left with new ideas, new friends and a new outlook on the future of their photography business and how to take them to the next level.

Resource Magazine would like to thank Skip Cohen and Scott Bourne for inviting us to the Skip Cohen University Thrive, Don’t Just Survive program. The welcoming attitudes and the support of the magazine from faculty and attendees made for an incredible two days and an experience we won’t soon forget.  If you haven’t taken the opportunity to look in to Skip Cohen University yet, we strongly suggest you do. It’s not for everyone but if you are really trying hard to learn and improve your photography and the model you use to run your photography business or you’re thinking about starting your photography business and need somewhere to start. Then Skip Cohen University is exactly what you need. There is nothing else out there that we’ve seen or attended that matches the knowledge, experience and  passion of this group of educators and everything they want to do to help make the photo industry a better place for all of us.
