Wedding and portrait photographer Holly Dalton recently had her wedding photography she shot for an Ontario wedding featured on the popular wedding blog Style Me Pretty Canada. In order for her submission to get picked by the blog’s editors, Dalton partnered with Hazlitt Vintage Rentals on this particular shoot. The rental company specializes in vintage prop rentals and helped decorate the country chic wedding, along with all the handmade trinkets the bride and her bridesmaids crafted.
“It was a really unique wedding with a lot of DIY things,” said Dalton, who has been shooting wedding photography for the past three years. “We knew it would stand out.”
Dalton’s wedding photography, aside from Style Me Pretty Canada, has been featured in the well-known magazine Wedding Bells. As far as having her work showcased on blogs, she says it’s beneficial for booking future jobs.
And when it comes to wedding blogs, Style Me Pretty is one of the major ones. It was started by wedding junkie Abby Larson in February 2007 in Palo Alto, Calif. She first got into the wedding business after releasing her own line of wedding invitations, but then later sold the company to Fontaine Maury. The blog includes coverage of real weddings, new vendors, invitations, flowers, fashion and photography, and has expanded its reach by launching specific versions for specific countries (so far the United States (California, New York, Florida, Texas in May 2011 and Massachusetts, Illinois, Georgia in July 2011), Australia (July 2011) and Canada (July 2011) can claim their own Style Me Pretty). In addition, Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book section was added in November 2008 and the Style Me Pretty Living section was added two months ago.
Dalton’s choice to photograph mostly portraits, family photos and wedding photos stems from the fact that she’s always been a people person and loves the spontaneity that comes with working with new people on each job. “It’s great to have a job where you get to meet so many interesting people,” said Dalton. “It always keeps you on your toes. It’s easy to get into routines and I never want to do that.”
Living in Godrich, Ontario, Dalton primarily takes jobs in the Southwestern Ontario region. However, this upcoming winter she is photographing for a wedding in the Dominican Republic, which will be her first wedding job taking her out the country.
Resource’s forthcoming Spring issue has a special section focuses on the current trends surrounding wedding photography. Look for copies of the new issue at a nearby studio, Barnes & Noble or get it here.
