Today’s Sony announcement reveals two new products to the Sony Line. The first is an answer to the the iPhone and iPad photographers of the world. Sony’s latest product declares the pocket camera lives on.
The Camera: Sony Cyber-shot HX50V
This new compact camera is the World’s smallest and lightest 30X optical zoom camera. It boats a 20.4MP, high-resolution image sensor, wifi and improved Optical SteadyShot ™. Already it shows itself to be a serous competitor to mobile photo devices. One of the biggest drawbacks of cellphones for photography, is their inability to zoom. The camera measures a measly 4.4”x2.6”x1.2” in size and weighs less than ten oz. Taking a look inside the camera; at its full 30x zoom the HX50V can stabilize images about twice as well as the HX200V, Sony’s high-zoom camera introduced last year. In keeping with the theme of doubling up, The HX50V will also auto-focus twice as fast as the HV200V. The HX50V features BIONZ processor allowing the camera to capture high-resolution images in all lighting conditions.
The Built in wifi allows for camera control via a smartphone equipped with Sony’s PlayMemories™ Mobile application. Through the application, users can turn their cellphone into a wireless remote for the camera. The wifi also allows users to transfer images and video directly to their smartphone or tablet. For users who don’t like giving up control of their images, The HX50V P/A/S/M/ model dial and a dedicated exposure compensation dial that allows for a great deal of manual control. It also features a Muti Interface Shoe for attaching accessories like a microphone, electronic viewfinder and flash. The Battery in the HX50V has been upgraded to an X-type lithium ion battery, smaller than its predecessors yet able to take four hundred pictures per charge.
In video mode, the camera can deliver Full HD (60p) with video stabilization in Active mode. It is also compatible with TRILUMINOUS Color technology, an expanded range of vivid, ultra-realistic colors that can be viewed when connected to compatible Sony Bravia television.
There are also a number in-camera, creative effects, that can instantly be applied to photos, videos and panoramic images, including Pop Color, Partial Color, Soft High-Key, among others.
The Cyber-shot HX50V will be Available in May and will retail for around $450.
