South America boasts one of the richest cultures in the world, with history dating back thousands of years and traces of ancient civilizations found all throughout the continent. On his Instagram series, photographer and graphic artist Eduardo Lindes Burnao (@murnaudenlinden) highlights this source of cultural pride by illustrating various representations of the Latin American culture and presenting it through a diverse set of colorful images teeming with rich details and other visual feasts.

“Latin America is like a punch in the nose. It suddenly gets your attention. It startles you,” says Eduardo, who admits drawing creative inspiration from the South American continent for his illustrations. Eduardo, is a graphic designer by day who is ironically didn’t came from South America. He was born in Spain but is currently based in London. Asked what fascinated him with the culture of another continent other than Europe?, he explains it was borne from his curiosity after being exposed to the culture and has since became enamored in exploring the Latin American culture. “That’s why I use primary, basic colors like yellow or blue because I want people to be shocked by the drawings.”

Eduardo’s grandfather was an avid listener of Latin music which then became the cultural footprint that he followed growing up. Today, Eduardo hopes that with these types of cultural exchanges between work of art and photographs, a bridge will be formed to connect Europeans with the people in South America. “I think Europe still has some unpaid debt with Latin America, and there’s still a lot of ignorance about that region and its important role in the world.” He is hoping that through his illustrations many Europeans and even from the other continents will soon appreciate the culture that is overflowing in Latin America. “In this moment, in the world we live in, we need some joy, more color, more flavor.”
