Samyang has announced four new lenses, two of them are cinema primes, specifically for mirrorless: 21mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.2, and 21mm T/1.5 and a 50mm T/1.3. Though their official release page states the lenses are built for APS-C sensor sizes, they are releasing the lenses for Sony E, Micro four thirds, Fujifilm X and Canon M mounts (so that’s somewhat confusing, but I’m sure they mean the lenses are made for a maximum sensor size of APS-C).
The Samyang 21mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC CS is a wide angle manual focus lens for mirrorless cameras and provides a wide 21mm angle of view. The 21mm f/1.4 features eight glasses in seven groups, including one extra low dispersion lens (ED) and three glass aspherical lenses (ASP) to minimize the unnecessary light dispersion and deliver high resolution throughout the center to corner of image. The lens also features Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) to optimize the light penetration and minimize flare and ghost and has a minimum focusing distance of only 0.28m.
The Samyang 50mm F1.2 AS UMC CS is a standard angle manual focus lens also for mirrorless cameras that features an f/1.2 aperture with impressive bokeh and incorporates nine lenses in seven groups with two glass aspherical lenses (ASP) and Ultra Multi Coating (UMC).
The 21mm T1.5 and 50mm T1.3 are designed for cinema use, and both these new lenses have quiet and smooth de-clicked focus and aperture gear rings with an accurate distance scale and T numbers marked on both sides of the lens.
Samyang’s suggested retail pricing for these lenses is as follows:
- 21mm F1.4 = EUR 349
- 21mm T1.5 = EUR 399
- 50mm F1.2 = EUR 399
- 50mm T1.3 = EUR 449
All four lenses will be available in mid-October.
