When DJI released their initial footage of the DJI Osmo with their ZenMuse X3 camera, I was not impressed. GoPro Hero 4 footage looked better in my eyes and they both use the same size sensor. But then I stumbled upon the video above, showing that the Osmo could be used with DJI’s Zenmuse X5 and Zenmuse X5R camera and gimbal system! This means that one doesn’t have to put up with a tiny, point and shoot sized 1/2.3″ sensor, but can instead enjoy a glorious micro four thirds sensor shooting Cinema 4K (4096×2160) RAW!

DJI X3 X5 X5RThis is a game changer in terms of quality of footage, stabilized footage, and price. The Zenmuse X5 is $2199 with DJI’s 15mm f/1.7 lens. Pricing and release date of the RAW shooting X5R has not been released. You still need to buy the Osmo at $649, which comes with the Zenmuse X3. Getting both is still a bargain compared to buying a camera that shoots 4K, 15mm f/1.7 lens, and a 3 axis- gimbal stabilizer.

I don’t know of any device more mobile and nimble for filmmakers than this. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on one.
