Flickr recently announced changes to its platform, and they’re not good changes for those who have basic accounts. The biggest change is that the once free desktop app, Flickr Uploadr, has now become a premium only for pro members. The once-free application allowed the ability for automatic upload from your hard drive to the website. Now, to get access to the application, users must now either make monthly payments of $5.99 or an annual amount of $49.99.

Flickr’s makeover last year reshaped our perceptions about the service and made it an option for photo storage needs.  Unfortunately, this is a step in the wrong direction for Yahoo. With Google Photo continuing to be a free service and as well as having a similar application to Flickr Uploadr, it doesn’t bode well for the once-popular photo sharing site even with the introductory price discount of 30% off.
