LaCie recently announced the newest product in their popular Rugged mobile drives, the main takeaway of which is that they will feature USB-C technology.

If you’re unfamiliar, USB-C is the next generation of USB that has a few advantages over what you’re probably used to:

The Rugged USB-C drive’s USB-C cable is fully reversible with no up/down or left/right orientation, so there’s no wrong way to connect the product. Not only is this new drive Thunderbolt 3 compatible, it can also be connected to USB 3.0 computers thanks to the included USB-C to USB-A cable. As a result, it can be used on almost any Mac or PC, latest or legacy. This wide compatibility also means creative professionals can ship the product to a client without worrying about connectivity.

The LaCie Rugged USB-C delivers transfer speeds of up to 130MB/s, enabling pretty swift transferring of footage. The USB-C provides enough bandwidth to browse large photo libraries without lag and perform backups fast. Plus, because it is bus powered, the LaCie Rugged USB-C works without having to plug it in.

With capacities of up to 4TB, the market’s highest storage for its size, the LaCie Rugged USB-C gives enough space to store a good amount of photo or video footage.

The LaCie Rugged USB-C, design by Neil Poulton, features the durability that some of the most influential creative pros have relied on for over a decade. Like its predecessors, the Rugged USB-C protects data against almost any risk. With resistance to drops, crush, rain, and unauthorized access, the LaCie Rugged USB-C is tough enough for extreme conditions—from a sudden rainstorm to a crush of suitcases in an airplane cargo hold.
