One day after Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States, Women’s March protests erupted throughout the nation. Beginning as a Facebook post shortly after the election, the march is only the start of what organizers hope to be a sustained lobby of protest across the country.

In Washington D.C., it is reported that over 500,000 people used the subway system by 3 p.m., with crowds that spanned almost the entire length of the planned march route; in Los Angeles, over 750,000 men and women flocked the downtown area; Chicago’s march drew more than an estimated 250,000; in New York, a pink sea of over 400,000 protesters traversed Fifth Avenue.

Here’s a selection of 29 remarkable photos taken by photographers Jason Leiva and Jose Alvarado from Women’s March on NYC.
