When it comes to persevering obstacles in pursuit of a passion, Achmad Zulkarnian serves as a role model. The 25 year old Indonesian photographer, who goes by the name DZOEL, was born without arms or legs, but that didn’t stop him from pursuing the art form, from which he has already experienced great success.

What started as a hobby has become a serious career, and Achmad has developed a number of techniques that allow him to snap photos by holding the camera to his face—he uses his mouth to turn the camera on and off, and uses extra skin on his arms to press the shutter. Once he’s got his shot, he uploads his photos and proceeds to retouch them himself. To get around, Achmad uses a go-kart like vehicle that he, with the help of friends and family, designed and built.

His works mostly feature close-ups, where Achmad utilizes lighting to capture stunning portraits.

Achmad serves as an inspiration for all, in his drive for creative expression and success. “I’m not disabled. I’m simply a person created in a different way. I have my own way of doing things,” he told Al Jazeera.
