When it comes to taking photos, how close is close enough? Sometimes the thing we want to focus on is overshadowed by the other elements in the frame no matter how close we get to the subject. Luckily, Lensbaby recently introduced a set of macro accessories that will make your close-up shots better than ever. The Lensbaby Macro Converters offer photographers “even more macro options beyond our existing Lensbaby Macro Kit, and works with every lens body and optic we make,” said Craig Strong, President and Co-Founder of Lensbaby. The kit contains one 8mm converter and one 16mm converter which can also be combined and used together to create a 24mm converter for those really minute details.

The kits are available for $50 at www.lensbaby.com and photo specialty stores worldwide.

If you’re a fashionista with a love for photography (or a photographer with a love for fashion), don’t miss the opportunity to see work from the best up-and-comers in both fields at the 27th Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography. This annual festival supports young fashion and photography artists through competitions and prizes. This year there were 290 fashion and 700 photography entrants competing for the grand prize.

For young photographers, the Hyères festival is a great way to jump start their career. “The Festival’s Photography Competition is aimed to push photographers forward—artistically, editorially, commercially—and every year it produces a different creative synergy that nourishes and revitalizes fashion photography. The festival has helped to launch many a career and initiated fruitful collaborations,” according to a description on the festival website.

A fashion jury headed by Yohji Yamamoto met on January 22nd and selected ten fashion finalists for the final competition in late April. Creative Director Michel Mallard along with 9 other notables make up the photography jury; the finalists have yet to be announced. All of the young designers and photographers will show their work to the public at villa Noailles in the South of France during a series of fashion shows and exhibitions. The festival will take place from April 27-30 and the exhibitions will be on display until May 27th.

Panasonic has added 2 new cameras to their ZS-Series this past week, the Lumix DMC-ZS20 and ZS15.

The ZS20, with a 14.1 megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor, will produce images at an even higher quality than you are used to with the previous models. It also comes equipped GPS and the combination of Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator and the Auto Wind Cut function will help to end unwanted noises. Not to mention its 1.1″ frame and power zoom, there’s no mistaking why it is called  “the world’s slimmest digital camera with a 20x optical zoom lens.”

The ZS15, the less pricey addition to the ZS-series, shoots full 1080/60i HD with a 16x zoom. It also has a 12.1 megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor, and 32x Intelligent Zoom.

Both will be available for purchase in March with the ZS20 costing you about $350, while the ZS15 runs roughly around$280 .

It was recently announced that 3 new Japanese companies will join the Micro Four Thirds System Standard Group. Tamron, Kenko Tokina, and ASTRODESIGN will start making products that are complaint with the MFT group standards, a concept created in 2008 by Panasonic and Olympus. The Tamron and Kenko Tokina companies  are well known for their lens manufacturing, and ASTRODESIGN is a leader in developing “advanced imaging-related equipment.” While no products have been realized as of yet, we can only assume these newcomers will bring new perspective and creativity to the MFT revolution. We are very excited for what’s to come!
